"Well, Golly, There's Crime in Mayberry Too!" - Thelma Lou Robbed! (For Real)

Barney Fife's girlfriend - who played Thelma Lou on The Andy Griffith Show, was robbed in Mount Airy, Virginia North Carolina. Mount Airy was the inspiration for the fictional town of Mayberry, where The Andy Griffith Show was set.

Betty Lou Lynn, 83, was at the New Market Crossing shopping center when a man ran up and snatched her wallet. Police chased the man, identified as Shirley Walter Guynn, after a short chase. Guynn was arrested for robbery.

Betty Lou Lynn had moved to Mt. Airy from Los Angeles in 2007 to get away from all the crime. The wallet contained $130 in cash, but somehow only $43 was recovered.

Guess crime's everywhere ...

Hugh Hefner Rocks!!!!! Hef Helps Save the Hollywood Sign!

Thank goodness some things are still considered "sacred."  What would Hollywood be without it's famous sign?  After all, it's one of the most iconic signs in the world.  It represents movies, fame, dreams and on the sad side ... dreams lost.  It's been in quite a few movies over the years, the scene of many suicides and photo ops; and songs have been written about it.   And most assuredly, I would assume, a huge tourist attraction.

Hollywood Sign (Panorama) Black Wood-Mounted Art Poster Print - 12" X 36"84-year-old Playbody media mogul Hugh Hefner has saved the day by contributing the amount  ($900,000.00) to preserve the 138 acres behind the sign from being developed, according to People. “It would have been a real shame after having restored it if it wound up sold,” Hefner said. “It’s become something iconic and represents not only the town but represents Hollywood dreams, and I think that’s something worth preserving.”   In 1978, after years of neglect, Hefner was one of a number of patrons who donated funds to restore it.

HOLLYWOOD SIGN BOULEVARD POSTER VINTAGE LEGEND ST3212The 45-foot-tall sign was built in 1923 as part of a real-estate promotion. Developers were planning to build luxury mansions on the property, but a nonprofit was given a chance to buy the property for $12.5 million. The organization was short $900,000 as the April 30 deadline approached.

Developers have been eyeing the hillside, once owned by Howard Hughes, for luxury mansions, but a nonprofit land-conservation group was given the chance to buy the land for $12.5 million. As an April 30 deadline neared, the group was nearly $1 million short.

"I was aware of the fact that they were raising the money, but I only learned about a week ago that they were running out of time," said Hefner. "They only had about a week and a half left to go."

Coffee Tables and Desks Made From Vintage Car and Truck Hoods

Found ... the perfect gift for that Kool Cat Guy you love so much!  Father's day is coming and if you actually need a holiday ... you can wait for a birthday or Christmas; but, this is a great dream gift for someone who is into cars, hot rods, trucks or just loves the sounds of  an engine.  For the record, I would totally love a Kasey Kahne hood even if it is a new car model!  (Hope you read my blog Kasey!)

The typical car and truck hoods of yesteryear used to be made from a massive sheet of formed steel  because they had to cover those massive engines and massive trunks.  And yes, those days are gone.  But enter Joel Hester, whose Dallas-based  business Weld House scrounges through scrap yards and turns what most would deem as junk hoods into amazing steel tables, beds, desks and art.

Hester's coffee and end tables start at $700 (check out his gallery on Flickr). Working with car hoods and trunks ravaged by sun, weather, and even custom paint jobs, Hester and his torch-happy gang flatten the metal, shape the edges, add custom legs and casters, and give each one a smooth finish. Some tables even bear their original hood ornaments and vin tags.

PS -- You know how you are not allowed to touch, sit or sit anything on the car (so you don't make a mark) -- your guy may not want you to set anything on the tables either (LOL)

Getting ready for the summer bowling league???  Add some jazz to the lanes ... 50's fashions are hot again. Women in bright red lipstick, retro dresses and retro 50's style bowling shirts have made a huge comeback. Capri pants, Cropped Pants, Clam Diggers ... Still in Style!

The original inspiration came from Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy, Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, and Mary Tyler Moore in The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Some know them as capri pants, cropped pants, clam diggers. That said, they were called "pedal pushers" in the 50s for a reason - they make a lot of sense on a bike.

More importantly .... ugly knees? These are great in the summer to keep cool, hide the knees and still look summery : )

Looking for a pair?  We have some great styles by Cruisin' USA, Lady K and Evil Brand.

Available at Get Go Retro.
